President's Message

A message from Darrell Kriplean, President of the 906 Foundation.

We show up when it matters.

In Phoenix Police radio code, "906" means an officer needs help right now. It's the call every officer hopes never to make, and the one every officer trusts will be answered. That sense of urgency, and that trust, is what led to the founding of 906 Foundation in 2007, and it's what continues to guide everything we do today.

I'm honored to serve as President of an organization built on a simple idea: that the bond between law enforcement and the community they serve is strengthened not through words, but through action. We show up when it matters. Whether that means standing beside the family of an officer injured or killed in the line of duty, helping a promising cadet afford the tuition that will put them on a path to serving our city, or handing a backpack full of school supplies to a child who needed one, we try to meet real needs with real support.

Over the years, that commitment has taken shape through programs like Back the Blue, which provides direct financial assistance to Arizona public safety personnel and their families in their most difficult moments; the Phoenix Police Cadet Scholarship Program, which invests in the next generation of officers; Shop with a Cop, the largest event of its kind in Arizona, pairing officers with 250 at-risk youth each holiday season; and Backpacks and Badges, which has now put more than 10,000 backpacks into the hands of Phoenix kids. We're also proud to support the Wake Up Club, Slopefest, the Ryan House Community Breakfast, and the Superhero 5K: smaller in scale, perhaps, but no less meaningful to the people they touch.

None of this would be possible without the generosity of our donors, the dedication of our partner organizations, and the trust of the officers and families we serve. Since our founding, we've been able to distribute approximately $4.5 million back into our community, a number that represents not just dollars, but relationships built, burdens eased, and kids who felt seen.

As we look to the future, our commitment hasn't changed. We will keep showing up. We will keep listening to what our community and our officers need, and we will keep working to be a foundation worthy of the trust placed in us. On behalf of our entire board and staff, thank you for being part of this work with us.

With gratitude,
Darrell Kriplean
